COMMENTS - CAT CAT HOTEL

Good overall value - 4th September, 2009
Booked here for a superior room on the top floor (30 USD), the weather was nice so we didn't require any heating. Good rooms with nice mattresses, mosquito nets. Lack of maintenance (some lights were not working, broken stuff in the bathrooom). Very nice view on Sapa valley on the small terrace, and the restaurant was also good value. Staff not particularly friendly but helpful.

Fun even in the fog! - 17th March, 2009
This hotel has lovely staff and nicely appointed rooms - even though it was a foggy, cold night (and we lost power for about an hour), my husband and I really enjoyed this place. The electric blanket was a nice touch which made us warm enough that we didn't even need to start a fire in the fireplace. The room was nicely appointed and felt cozy which made us feel like we had a bit of luxury during our backpacker holiday. The restaurant is also a nice touch - the breakfast was great! A bit pricey perhaps though worth a few extra dollars - if weather is clear, the view will be worth it...and if the weather isn't good, you may want to cozy up in a nice room after a damp, foggy day. Also worth mentioning that it's one of the closest to Cat Cat Village (and also near the market) - it's close to things but not right in the middle of the action (read: touts).

Beautiful location - 25th March, 2007
Sapa is gorgeous, and the Cat Cat Hotel offers a great vantage point from which to see the surrounding area. No fewer than five sets of stairs lead you from reception to the restaurant and your room, each with a patio and a fireplace. OK restaurant. But it's really the views that grab you, once the mist clears. Don't let the stairs turn you off - if you're in Sapa, get ready for some ascents. Warning: the rooms can be very cold, and the basket of firewood turns to ashes very quickly.

Great view,great location - 22nd July, 2010
Stayed here for 4 nights with my wife in early June. Stayed in the slightly cheaper rooms on the seventh floor which were great value for $25 including breakfast. The breakfasts are pretty standard fare so we opted to not include this in the room price and buy what we wanted al a carte instead. The staff we found to be on the whole very helpful and friendly. Really enjoyed the chats with the owners who explained how everyone fitted into the equation. We decided to do the day tour to Bac Ha and a full day trek organized through the hotel. The tour to Bac ha was obviously onsold and it showed in a very disinterested tour guide although the day was interesting and you make your fun.The day trek the hotel organized for us was much better as we wanted to walk on our own so we paid a bit more for great female Black Hmong guide who really enjoyed her job.As always it seems there are a couple of ladies tagging along but helped us out with the trek so we had no problem buying something from them at lunch. It pays to be quite firm about what you are prepared to buy or not at the start as this badgering in Sapa can get really tiresome and that was the feeling from a number of travellers. All up with comfy beds stunning views good food cold beer and good front desk service this is a great place to stay.Just try and make more than 1 or 2 nights.

Best view in the world? - 27th April, 2010
There are probably better views but I think this is the best view I have had from any hotel in the world and it's better from the restaurant/bar. Clean room, hot water, good food and friendly staff. Unfortunately at the moment every place in Sapa shuts down power for long periods early in the week and there are so many building sites you'll still hear the distant jack hammers so you'll want to check that the renovations next door are finished and that the town will have power on the days you are there. Power and building aside you must go to Sapa and if you don't stay at the Cat Cat View Hotel at least have a drink on the 7th floor bar to see what you're missing.
